Black­rock Cas­tle is the old­est sur­viv­ing struc­ture still in use in the city of Cork. This his­toric cas­tle has served as an Admi­ralty Court, a light­house, a sig­nalling sta­tion and a gun bat­tery, defend­ing the river approach to Cork.

In addi­tion to The Cas­tle Café, the Cas­tle cur­rently houses Black­rock Cas­tle Obser­va­tory which is well worth a visit if you’d like to find out more about Cork and this unique structure.

It’s not just about the past though as there are kids work­shops and camps, activ­i­ties as well as fun sci­en­tific exhi­bi­tions to be enjoyed along with the occa­sional Moon viewing.
